The difference between fair use and a copyright violation
Copyright law is vague on the concept of fair use. Basically, you can use a little bit of somebody else’s content for free, but not too much. The legal test is very vague.
To simplify it for you, here’s a rule of thumb.
Fair use is when I use your content.
A copyright violation is when you use my content.
Hope that clears things up a bit.
I’ll have to copy and re-post this helpful advice on my blog. In its entirety. No attribution needed for something this short, right?? 😉
I always thought that under 300 words with attribution sufficed.
There is no word count.
Intellectual Property law is fascinating and confusing, complex, and far behind the times.
And then there are countries like Japan, where there is no concept of fair use in their copyright laws.
